This movement of the body, more commonly known as the cardiovascular system, is a large network that transports blood, nutrients, oxygen, carbon dioxide, hormones, and many more key components in the body. Its primary function is to achieve homeostasis while helping meet the metabolic activities within the body. The circulatory system largely comprises a heart, blood vessels (arteries, veins, and capillaries), and blood.

The Heart: The heart constitutes the central body organ of circulations. It is quite similar to a pump, in that it has four chambers that pump blood throughout the body. Its right side pumps deoxygenated blood to the lungs to be oxygenated, and its left side pumps oxygenated blood to the rest of the body for proper circulation.

Arteries: They carry oxygen-rich blood out of the heart to the tissues and organs. The biggest of all arteries is the aorta, which divides further into other smaller arteries that will extend through every part of the body. Arteries have thick elastic walls to endure the blood pressure force while pumped from the heart.

Veins: Veins carry deoxygenated blood back toward the heart in the body. They are narrower than arteries and have valves at times if blood flows back so that it proceeds in the proper direction. The two biggest are superior and inferior vena cava, which carry blood from the upper and the lower parts of the body toward the heart.

Capillaries: these are the smallest vessels and in abundance; thus, they do form a network that bridges the arteries and the veins. The blood contains thin walls of capillaries through which oxygen, nutrients, carbon dioxide, and other waste products diffuse in and out of the blood.

It therefore becomes one of the most fundamental fluids carrying red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets, and plasma. Red blood cells carry oxygen and carbon dioxide, white blood cells relate to the immune response, platelets help in the clotting of blood, and plasma is a fluid that carries nutrients, hormones, and waste products throughout the body.
