Reproduction : This is the process wherein some organisms produce offspring to ensure the continuation of their species. Of course, there are two widely-known methods of reproduction. These are sexual and asexual reproduction.

Sexual reproduction is that process when the two parents produce a new offspring, which are genetically unique. The male gamete, that is, sperm fuses with the female gamete, that is, egg in animals to form a zygote, which eventually gives rise to a new organism. Sexual reproduction is highly present in animals, plants, and most microorganisms. Sexual reproduction encourages genetic diversity, and so, develops higher adaptations and survival methods in highly varied environments.

Species reproducing asexually have only one parent and produce genetically almost identical offspring. The most common types of asexual reproduction are binary fission, budding, and vegetative propagation, and all of these are widely distributed between bacteria, fungi, and some plants. Although asexually reproducing organisms can increase their population extremely rapidly, it has a lot of disadvantages because no genetic variation can occur due to the asexual methods; thus, species face abrupt environmental changes.

Reproduction is a survival characteristic, and therefore, the species-wide change at death. It ensures genetic continuity and permits adaptation throughout generations-the most crucial reason for the diversity of life on Earth.
