Conservation Food & Health Foundation 

The Conservation, Food & Health Foundation (CFHF) supports initiatives that protect the environment, improve food systems, and promote public health across Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Latin America, and the Middle East.

Types of Support

The Foundation funds projects and applied research that:

  • Provide local or regional solutions to environmental and human development challenges
  • Strengthen local leadership and professional skills in conservation, agriculture, and health
  • Build the capacity of local organizations and partnerships
  • Address critical, underfunded issues in targeted regions

The Foundation aims to provide seed funding to help projects grow and attract larger funding in the future.

Fields of Interest

1. Conservation

Supports efforts that:

  • Protect biodiversity and natural resources
  • Mitigate climate change impacts
  • Strengthen local conservation capacity
  • Promote collaboration between communities, scientists, and policymakers
  • Engage indigenous communities

2. Food & Agriculture

Focuses on projects that:

  • Promote sustainable agriculture
  • Support small-scale farmers
  • Encourage research partnerships
  • Develop affordable pest and disease control methods
  • Strengthen food security and nutrition
  • Promote indigenous knowledge and food systems

3. Health

Supports innovative approaches to public health, especially:

  • Reproductive health and family planning
  • Mental and behavioral health
  • Environmental health and pollution
  • Nutrition and health
  • Zoonotic and neglected diseases

Focus is on prevention, capacity building, and community-level impact, rather than clinical treatment.

Key Priorities

Across all sectors, priority is given to projects that:

  • Build local capacity
  • Can be replicated or scaled
  • Influence policy and public awareness
  • Drive systemic change
  • Benefit communities beyond the immediate project

Eligibility Criteria

Eligible applicants include:

  • NGOs and nonprofit organizations
  • Civil society and community-based organizations
  • Universities and research institutions

Note:

  • Government and religious institutions can be partners, but not direct recipients
  • Projects must be based in eligible regions

Not Funded

The Foundation typically does not support:

  • General operating costs or overhead
  • Humanitarian aid (direct food/medical aid)
  • Construction or infrastructure projects
  • Eco-tourism
  • Private-profit projects
  • Pre-award expenses
  • Salaries of senior executives (US/Europe-based organizations)

Grant Details

  • Typical grant size: $25,000 – $50,000 per year
  • Duration: 1–2 years
  • Second-year funding depends on performance

Application Cycles:

  • Twice a year: Spring & Fall
  • Only one proposal per organization per year

Reporting Requirements

  • Final Report: Within one year of project start or last funding year
  • Interim Reports: Required for multi-year projects
  • Includes financial and progress updates
