Inside the human being’s body is this organ that circulates blood in all ways to different parts of the body, taking in oxygen and nutrients and taking out carbon dioxide wastes. The heart is a muscular structure in the thoracic cavity, between the lungs, the size of a clenched fist, and also known as the engine of the circulatory system.

The four chambers include the right atrium and right ventricle, left atrium, and left ventricle. They all pump blood in effective manners. De-oxygenated blood meant to go to the body, received in the right atrium is passed directly to the right ventricle out of the body through the pulmonary artery to the lungs then oxygenated. But now, when it’s fully oxygenated, it is returned to the left atrium and then into the left ventricle in preparation for its trip out the aorta and throughout the body when it’s pumped.

The heart electrical conduction system regulates its functioning, initiating and regulating the heartbeat. This conduction system has a natural pacemaker in situ in the right atrium called the sinoatrial node that provides the electrical impulses which cause the atria to contract and force blood into the ventricles, then sends them from the atrioventricular node to the ventricles which causes the ventricles to constrict and pump blood to the lungs and the body at large.

This heart is made of a muscular wall constructed in such a way that contraction and relaxation can happen repeatedly. To do this kind of job, it needs oxygen-rich blood supply from coronary arteries, which is necessitated by the myocardium.
