Essentially, endocrine disorders refer to medical conditions that impact the normal functioning of endocrine glands within a person’s body. These glands produce hormones within the body and regulate the regulation of these hormones; thus, an imbalance in the production of hormones by them could cause various health issues resulting from endocrine disorders. Some of the common endocrine disorders include diabetes and thyroid disorders, adrenal insufficiency, and PCOS.

Diabetes is the most common of the endocrine disorders and represents a failure of the pancreas either to produce adequate insulin or to maintain an adequate sensitivity of cells to insulin. This results in heightened blood sugar and complications leading to heart disease, kidney failure, and neuropathy. Thyroid disorders include both hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism, that result in imbalance in thyroid hormone synthesis. Hypothyroidism causes low metabolism, low energy, weight gain; hyperthyroidism results in enhanced metabolism, weight loss, and anxiety.

In adrenal insufficiency, Addison’s disease, the adrenal glands cannot make adequate amounts of cortisol and aldosterone; it implies that a person cannot withstand stress, metabolism, and electrolyte balance. PCOS is perhaps the most common endocrine disorder in women; irregular menstrual cycles, hyperandrogenism, and ovarian cysts are tantamount to the cardinal symptoms of infertility and acne.

Well-controlled drugs in combination with lifestyle modification and frequent follow-up observation without complications from hormonal imbalances can control endocrine disorders. Additional diagnostic and treatment facilities that would enhance the quality of life in the lives of endocrine disorder victims are under scientific researches.
