Paleontology is related to the study of earth’s history of life based on fossil and trace evidence. It reconstructs information regarding the pattern of organisms’ evolution, the structure and dynamism of ancient ecosystems, and changes in climate on earth through history.

The study of fossils forms one of the main aspects of paleontology. A fossil is defined as preserved remains or impressions of ancient life forms-such as dinosaurs, mammoths, plants, trees, or microscopic organisms. It is these remains that a paleontologist analyses to reconstruct past environments, find exposures of evolutionary processes, and trace extinction events.

Dinosaur paleontology is one of the leading subfields that focus on prehistoric reptiles which roamed this Earth long ago; such findings as that of the Tyrannosaurus rex and that of the Triceratops captured public attention, helping to contribute a lot to the understanding of prehistoric life.

Another important stream is paleobotany-that is, the study of ancient plant life and how it might have evolved over millions of years to realize past climates and how plant life has been adapted to environmental change. Paleoecology is the study of past ecosystems, how these ecosystems responded to climate changes or alterations, or other alterations, and assists in explaining how ancient organisms could survive alongside their environment and with each other.
